For most Texas small businesses: $200 to $1,000 a month, outsourced.
That's the honest range for professional monthly bookkeeping for a typical small business: transactions categorized, every bank and credit card account reconciled, and financial statements delivered monthly. Where you land inside the range comes down almost entirely to two numbers: how many accounts you have and how many transactions run through them. A solo operator with one checking account and one card is a very different job than a contractor with six accounts and five hundred transactions a month.

The whole market, honestly
Five ways to buy bookkeeping, and what each really costs.
- Do it yourself: "just" the software. QuickBooks Online starts around $38 a month, and then costs you the real money: your nights and weekends, and the errors nobody catches until tax season. Fine at the very beginning. Quietly expensive after that.
- Hourly freelancers: commonly $30–$60+ an hour in Texas. The rate looks cheap; the bill is open-ended. A messy month costs more, a question costs more, and you find out the total after the work is done. Quality ranges from excellent to disastrous, and vetting is on you.
- National online services: advertised "from" $150–$400 a month. The big virtual services price low to get in the door, then move you up tiers as your volume appears. You'll rarely work with the same person twice, and DFW-specific anything is not part of the deal.
- Local firms: usually "call for pricing." Here's the thing we can say because we looked: almost no bookkeeping firm in the Frisco, McKinney, or Collin County area publishes monthly prices at all. The quotes tend to land between roughly $300 and $800+ a month once volume is counted. One area firm's only published number is a cleanup fee of $7,500–$10,000.
- An in-house bookkeeper: roughly $4,300+ a month in DFW. That's just the median salary math for the metro area, before benefits, software, and management time. It's the right call eventually, at a size most small businesses haven't reached yet.

Growing, $999+/month: starts at 6 accounts and 500 transactions, includes subcontractor W-9 and 1099 tracking and a monthly Owner's Briefing call; bigger books quoted flat, in writing. Every plan includes monthly reconciliation of every account and a P&L and balance sheet delivered by the 15th.

Why the ranges are so wide
What actually drives your price, anywhere you go.
- Accounts to reconcile. Every bank account, credit card, and loan account is a monthly reconciliation. Six accounts is triple the work of two, at any firm.
- Transaction volume. A hundred transactions a month and a thousand are different jobs, even if revenue is identical.
- The state of the books today. Months of uncategorized history means cleanup before maintenance. Buy it as a defined project, never as open-ended hourly.
- What's bundled in. Payroll, invoicing, bill pay, and tax prep each add cost wherever you buy them. We deliberately do bookkeeping only, so your books arrive tax-ready for your CPA and you're not paying a bookkeeping firm to resell payroll software.
- Who actually does the work. Offshore teams and rotating pools are cheaper for a reason. Ask any provider who touches your file and how often that person changes.

Is hourly or flat-fee better?
Hourly looks cheaper until the bill is open-ended. A flat fee means the messy month costs the same as the clean one, and the efficiency problem is ours, not yours.
What does cleanup cost if I'm behind?
The market charges anywhere from per-month-behind fees (commonly $195–$495 per month of history) to published project fees of $7,500–$10,000. Ours is a flat $1,000 for books up to six months behind, quoted in writing first. Full breakdown on the cleanup cost page.
Do these prices include tax filing?
No, ours don't include tax prep anywhere, on purpose. We are bookkeepers, not tax preparers, and your CPA files from the clean books we hand them. Anywhere you shop, check whether "bookkeeping" quietly includes or excludes tax work; it's the most common apples-to-oranges trap in these comparisons.
